Swim Team Weekly Update 6/30/25
Hello Swim Team,
What a great weekend! Thank you to the many volunteers who helped our first home meet run so smoothly, and thank you to all of the families who parked at the Morgan State parking deck so Meadowbrook could find spots in the neighborhood. They appreciated it! We are hosting again this weekend (the morning after 4th of July!) so we’ll really need your help stepping up again. We’ll all get a break the following weekend when we travel to Crofton Country Club. In this update you’ll find the following:
- Home Meet vs. Summer Hill 7/4 – Sign up now!
- No Practice Friday, July 4
- Fun THURSDAY - Beach Theme!
- 2025 Lap-A-Thon
- Still ISO: Awards Party Planning Committee
- Stingrays Team Records
- Swan Lake vs Five Oaks Photo Album
- Zeke’s Whole Bean Available
Home Meet vs. Meadowbook 6/28 – Sign up now!
Our next meet is on July 5 at home against Summer Hill. Summer Hill has a strong lineup and we expect this meet to be competitive and close! We will warm up from 8:00 - 8:25, and the meet will start at 9:00. The deadline to declare if you plan to swim in this meet is Wednesday, July 2. Please log into Swimtopia as soon as possible to let us know if your swimmer plans to participate. If you know your swimmer can’t participate, it would still be helpful if you can log in and declare “not participating.” We will be doing our meet setup on Saturday morning this week due to the holiday. If you are an early riser, please consider signing up to help with setup around 7 am! Thank you!
No Practice Friday, July 4
There will be no regular swim practice on Friday, July 4.
Fun THURSDAY - Hat Day
Due to the holiday, we will be celebrating Fun Friday on THURSDAY, July 3 this week. This week’s theme is Hat Day, so wear your favorite hat! We will follow the usual Fun Friday Schedule (8:00 - 11&up, 9:00 - 10&under, 9:15 - Junior Stingrays, 10:00 - Snacks and Games). You can sign up to bring snacks or help out via Swimtopia.
2025 Lap-A-Thon
Our 2025 Lap-A-Thon is LIVE! This year our fundraising will go towards a new lane line reel and cover, a records board, and general operating expenses. Our fundraising goal is $10,000! We have some fun prizes lined up already, and we are working on more! The Top 3 fundraising families will receive 2 weeks of reserved parking in the “raffle spot” at Swan Lake next summer. For this prize, we will add together funds raised by family members living in the same household to determine our totals. In addition, every individual swimmer who raises at least $200 will be entered into a raffle to win one of five $25 gift cards to the snack bar. More prizes will be coming soon! The Lap-A-Thon will be held on Sunday, July 20, at 5:00, before the Awards Party. If you are not available on that date, you’ll be able to swim your laps another time. More information and FAQs will be coming in a separate email soon!
Still ISO: Awards Party Planning Committee
Our Awards Party will be on Sunday, July 20, at 6:00, immediately following the Lap-A-Thon. I could really use some help planning this event. Please let me know if you can volunteer!
Stingrays Team Records
I am working on compiling Stingrays team records so we can start a record board and keep track moving forward. I only have results data going back to 2018. I am working on a draft of records since 2018 (still updating records that have been broken this season), but if you have older data, such as meet results or a ribbon with your swimmer's time on it that shows a faster swim prior to 2018, please let me know. And check out these records -- some have already been broken this season!
Swan Lake vs Five Oaks Photo Album
This summer, a parent volunteer is taking photos of team practices, meets, awards ceremonies, and other public or group events in order to capture moments for families. They will usually wear a nametag so people know who they are and why they are taking photos. We are being mindful of privacy and will only share photos of swimmers whose families who signed the photo release during registration. Photos will be shared with families through a private link, and we ask that you do not share further unless you have received permission from all swimmers in the photo. If you do not want your swimmer’s photos to be included in the albums, please let us know, and if you see a photo that you wish to be removed, we can do that as well.
The photos from our dual meet at Five Oaks can be viewed here. They look great!
Zeke’s Still Available
I have about 8 pounds of Zeke’s whole bean coffee available for immediate pickup. We will also place another bulk order with grind options and decaf available on July 15. You can order via Membersplash. Every order raises about $7 for the swim team!
Happy Swimming!
Linn
