Hello Swim Team Families,

The sun is shining, the pool is warming up, and it’s finally starting to feel like summer swim season! We are following a normal practice schedule this week.

T-Shirt Distribution

Caedmon will be distributing t-shirts at practice both Tuesday and Thursday this week as well as next Tuesday, June 10! If you won’t be at practice, please ask a friend to pick up your shirt for you. Only swimmers who requested a shirt during registration will receive shirts. I will have shirts for Junior Stingrays at their evaluations this Sunday.

Junior Stingrays Evaluations - June 8

Evaluations for swimmers who hope to join the Junior Stingrays will be held on Sunday, June 8, from 10:00 - 11:00. Arrive anytime between 10:00 and 10:45, and your swimmer will be evaluated either individually or in a small group. Each evaluation will take about 5 minutes. Your swimmer will be asked to swim across the width of the shallow end without touching the bottom of the pool. A coach will be in the water with your swimmer as a safety precaution. If your swimmer is not able to meet this threshold, they will not be able to join the swim team at this time. Your swimmer can continue practicing and request a new tryout later in the summer, or we can refund your registration fee.

Picture Day - June 10

Professional photographers will be at Swan Lake on Tuesday, June 10, to take individual photos as well as a team photo. We are tentatively planning for individual photos to start at 4:00, and the team photo to be taken at 4:45. Stay tuned for more information and a finalized schedule.

Chipotle Fundraiser - June 10

We are hosting a Chipotle fundraiser at the 6314 York Road location of Chipotle on Tuesday, June 10 from 5:00 - 9:00 pm. If you mention that you are supporting the Swan Lake Stingrays, 25% of your purchase will be donated to the team. You can also order ahead for pickup with the code VKGXT69.

Time Trial Meet Registration and Volunteer Sign Up

It’s time to register for our first meet - the Stingrays Time Trial! We will hold this meet in place of swim practice on Thursday, June 12. The Time Trial is a fun, low-stress opportunity for Stingrays to experience a swim meet and for volunteers to practice running a meet. The final day to declare whether your swimmer is participating in the meet is Tuesday, June 10. If you do not sign your swimmer up in Swimtopia, they will not be entered in the practice meet. You can declare your swimmer(s) and sign up to volunteer under the “Meets and Events” tab on our website.

Please Consider Becoming an Official

The Swan Lake Stingrays truly have one of the best teams of stroke and turn officials in the league. However, many of our officials’ swimmers are soon going to be aging out of summer swimming, and we need a few more officials, preferably parents of younger swimmers, to join the crew. Stroke and Turn officials watch races closely to ensure that swimmers use proper stroke technique and follow the rules of competition. Becoming an official is an opportunity to learn more about the sport of swimming, to ensure fair meets, and to help swimmers become their best selves by informing them when they do not use correct technique (via disqualification codes, which are communicated to coaches.)
